PROCEDURES AVAILABLE

VNUS Closure® procedure - Used for patients with significant venous insufficiency, this procedure is done in the office under local anesthetic. After a catheter is placed within the vein, controlled radiofrequency energy is used to seal off the greater saphenous vein and/or it’s malfunctioning branches. Patients walk out of the office with little or no “down time”. Some patients who have suffered with chronic venous insufficiency for years can feel instant relief once the malfunctioning vein has been sealed off. Elas procedure – Endoluminal ablation of the saphenous vein For patients with saphenous vein insufficiency, this procedure is done in our office under local anesthetic. A laser microfiber is introduced into the malfunctioning vessel. As the fiber is removed, laser energy is used to seal off the vein. Again, patients walk out of the office with minimal downtime. Patients are encouraged to walk and be active the next day. Ambulatory Phlebectomy This procedure is the most common treatment for varicose veins in the event that saphenous ablation is impossible due to excessive tortuousity or in cases where the diseased veins are too small for the ablation procedures mentioned above. This procedure is also done under local anesthetic and involves mapping the veins, numbing these areas and making micro punctures in the skin whereby the veins can be “teased” out with tiny hooks. In many cases, patients who have only visible spider veins need mini phlebectomies to eliminate the reticular varicosities that lie beneath the visible barrier of the skin. These reticular veins are the “feeders” to the spider veins and must be treated before the spider veins themselves are treated. If the hidden reticular veins are not removed, any treatment of the spider veins will result in a waste of time and money as these spider veins will continue to reform in the same area. Sclerotherapy Sclerotherapy is a nonsurgical office procedure used to eliminate visible spider veins. Some patients who have very minor spider veins will require only sclerotherapy for treatment. Sclerosing solution is dripped into the vein using a very tiny needle. This solution closes down the vein walls so that they collapse and stick together and are gradually reabsorbed by the body. This has been a very successful treatment in our office and is used only to treat veins < 1mm in size. Laser treatment of spider veins For veins too small even for sclerotherapy treatment, the Dornier 940nm laser is used very successfully to close these tiny, yet annoying purple veins. We use only the smallest possible laser settings to ensure effectiveness yet eliminate the risk of skin burns.
